Subacute nodular migratory panniculitis, a rare presentation of a rare disease: a case report

Panniculitis refers to the inflammation of subcutaneous fat. Subacute nodular migratory panniculitis (Aka Vilanova disease) is a rare type seen predominantly in women. Clinically, it closely resembles erythema nodosum but often unilateral as opposed bilateral involvement nodosum. Triggering factors include infections, drugs, thyroid disorders, pregnancy, or malignancies. We report case 52-year-old female who was known hypothyroidism and presented with sudden onset red colored painful lesions raised temperature over both lower limbs. Hematological evaluation unremarkable except for erythrocyte sedimentation rate. Histopathological examination lesion showed septal giant cells, suggestive subacute panniculitis. The patient responded very well treatment capsule indomethacin.
